This document describes how to set up and run the CIMCO DNC-Max Server as a service. DNC-Max supports running the server module as a service on Windows NT4, Windows 2000, Windows XP or newer and Windows Server 2003 or newer.
A service is a background process that can run when there are no interactively logged-on users.
The main advantages of running DNC-Max as a service are:
The service can run without any users logged on to the computer, and the service is automatically started when the computer is started.
Regular users (without administrator privileges) cannot start or stop the DNC-Server.

Regular users can still shutdown the computer! |
The service can use a network logon that is different from the user currently logged on to computer. This allows the server to access network files that are not available to regular users.
